Journal Checklist

Here is your road map for source and citing. Follow these simple steps to make your source and cite experience as easy and efficient as possible.

Step 1: Set up a journal proxy!

Managing editors should set up proxy accounts for each article in their journals. To set up proxies for your journal, please contact Maribel Nash and Jennifer Lubejko with the students' names, the journal, the author of the article, and the volume and issue number. Staff members, please confirm with your managing editor that s/he has added you as a proxy for the articles on which you are working.

Step 2: Find and check out the materials you're looking for.

Books and other print materials in the Law Library are organized by location codes (MON; F,CAS; REF; etc.) and by call number (KF 4541 .A87 2005). If you need help finding any materials, please ask a librarian or the circulation staff.

Remember to tell the circulation staff that the items you are checking out are for the journal on which you are working. Make sure you know the article for which the materials are for. All books must be checked out to journals under a proxy account. If you find your source in electronic format, follow your journal's procedures.

For detailed instructions on finding online sources and locating and checking out books, articles, newspapers, and other materials, please refer to the Finding Sources: Books and Articles page.

Step 3: Using the journal shelves.

Journal shelves are located on the east side of the 4th floor. All materials checked out to journals must be kept on the designated journal shelves. The shelves are organized by the author of the article and the issue number. As well as keeping all books on the journal shelves, please use acid free bookmarks located at the circulation desk when marking citations in the books.

Step 4: Return all books once the issue goes to publication.

To help keep the journal shelves clean, and to assist the circulation staff with reshelving the materials in a timely manner, all materials checked out to an article should be returned as soon as the issue goes to publication. Book carts are available for checkout at the circulation desk (until the end of the day) in exchange for your WildCARD.
